Yesterday parts of Denmark - including Copenhagen (where I work) and the northern part of Sealand (where I live) - was presented with real winter weather: Heavy snowfall and a "fresh breeze".
Throughout the afternoon I watched the cars getting stuck in the Copenhagen rush hour traffic outside my office window - getting increasingly happy that I, as usual, had chosen the combination of S-train and bike.
Even though the bike part of my commute goes through a rather rural area there were no real problems because of the snow. I got safely home having had a lot of fun and knowing there would still be colleagues sitting in line inside their cars.

Getting ready for a lot of kilometers in 2010 :-)
Finally in late september I got my new, and long awaited, Optima Baron Elite. Showed up at Cykeloptimisten (Knud) in Horsens, looked as the last bits and pieces were put together, test drive and then on the train to Copenhagen. Lots of comments were made and questions were asked from my fellow pasengers. I soon found out that bringing a recumbent bike is one of the easiest ways to get to talk to people.
The bike has a beautiful posture and a wealth of nice details:
Luckily we had a nice and warm fall 2009 in Denmark which gave me the opportunity to get a decent amount of K's on the clock before the winter set in (as it did late november). At the moment we have snow and quite cold weather in Denmark and the Baron is parked in my cellar workshop waiting for excitement and lots of K's during 2010.

The long wait - and a new commuting route
It's been such a long time (2 1/2 weeks) since I ordered my new recumbent bike, and there's still no sign of it: I feel like child around christmas - I can hardly wait any longer!
In the manwhile I'm experimenting with a new route for my daily commute. Last week my office was relocated to the southern side of the Copenhagen City area (Sydhavnen), adding 15 km to my usual route.
This has several implications:
1) Since my commute is now 57 km each way, I now have to rely on the S-train for the morning ride (bringing my bike with me) and save my bike ride for the trip home.
2) While most of the route remains the same there is now some kilometres of riding through Copenhagen City - which is no bad thing at all...it just doesn't exactely speed up my trip.
3) Beeing in a new place means I have to build up new routines - which isn't a bad thing either, on the contrary: There is nothing as stimulating as breaking the old habits.
I have ended up with a route looking like this (this is the trip from my office to Allerød Station):
